ELVIN RIVERA JOINS MIAMI UNITED FC YOUTH AS PLAYER DEVELOPMENT ACADEMY (PDA) DIRECTOR & STAFF COACH

MIAMI, FL (February 5, 2021)—Miami United FC Youth (MUFC) would like to welcome Elvin Rivera to the club as the Player Development Academy (PDA) Director and staff coach.

Rivera is a native of Fredericksburg, Virginia, who has relocated to South Florida to join a fast-growing Miami United FC Youth program. He graduated from Belfast Metropolitan College with a degree in Sports Management and a concentration in Coaching and Leadership!

The 23-year old joins our program with a great playing background and tons of experiences to share with our players! Rivera grew up playing for Prince William Soccer Inc., and Fredericksburg FC, before finishing his youth club career at US Soccer Developmental Academy club Richmond United. Following his successful youth playing career Elvin had interest in pursuing a professional contract and put his efforts into this. This landed Rivera at DC United’s U23 team before being offered his first professional contract with Larne Football Club! During his time at Larne FC, Rivera played under the instruction of Tiernan Lynch. Lynch not only coached Rivera on the field but proved to be a huge mentor and supporter of Elvin off the field. They are constantly still in touch on a daily basis and we believe this relationship will help our club and players in numerous ways!

Elvin had this to say about joining the MUFC Youth Staff. “After only being a part of MUFC for a week, I can already feel such a sense of community, which makes me feel right at home. In my time here, I hope to create platforms for players to expose their true potential in order to reach a higher level. I hope to share my knowledge and be as accessible as possible for parents, the youth and my colleagues. Vamos United! “Bringing the community together, for the love of the game.”

Rivera will oversee all of our Player Development Academy program players, staff and programming! This program will feed directly into our Recreation and Competitive model. He will maintain, develop, and conduct coach, player and parent programs, clinics and camps for all levels. As the PDA Director, he will also act as an ambassador for Miami United FC with the local soccer communities and work directly with the club’s Executive Director, Technical Director, and Director of Operations. Rivera will transition into a Head Coach and Assistant Coach role within our Competitive program as well this Spring 2021 season!

“I have known Elvin for years now from when he was playing youth soccer in Virginia and I am looking forward to have him join our Staff at MUFC Youth. He joins MUFC Youth with more than 15 years of experience in the game and has played the game at the highest levels,” said MUFC Executive Director, Mayowa Owolabi. “I am very excited to have Elvin join us here at MUFC Youth. Just from the few conversations we have had I have grown to admire his hard-working mentality and understanding of the game, and have been impressed with the experiences and exposure that he has received as a player and coach. I think he will jump on to our staff very well and will be a tremendous asset to our players and families both on and off the field.”

Elvin started his role at the club this week, February 1st and has enjoyed his time with players and coaches already! If you see Elvin on the field match sure to say hello and wish him well.
